Maurice Freedman
At 36-years-old, Maurice Freedman was an ex-policeman with a gambling problem. He owed a lot of money and even pawned his own clothes for money. Then he met a young typist names Annette Friedson, and the couple became involved. However Annette’s parents were not fond of Freedman, and they told her to finish with him.
Annette ended it with Freedman. The family feared Freedman would approach Annette, so her brother accompanied to work every day. On the morning of 26th January 1932, Annette was escorted to work by her brother as usual. But Freedman was waiting outside her workplace. He jumped out, cut her throat with a razor, and fled. Later on, police found the bloodstained razor on a bus.
Freedman was arrested. During an interview, he claimed that he had told Annette he was going to kill himself if she left him. He told police he had approached Annette with the razor, planning on killing himself, but Annette had grabbed the razor and cut her own throat. Police did not believe his story. Freedman was arrested and found guilty. He was executed on 4th May 1932.
